Enable Google Classroom in Google Workspace
Allow Type the Word in Google Workspace so teachers and students can sign in with Google and use Classroom features.
This guide walks through granting app access in the Google Admin Console for Type the Word.
You will configure app access for:
- Google sign-in scopes
- Google Classroom scopes
Type the Word currently appears as two web app entries in the app list, and you should configure both.
When you search for Type the Word in Google Admin, you may see two entries:
-
Official Type the Word OAuth app
This is used for the main Type the Word sign-in flow and generally only needs basic identity data (such as email and first name). In some Workspace environments, enabling this entry is not strictly required, but we recommend explicitly enabling it for consistency. -
Type the Word Google Classroom integration app
This is the app entry that allows Type the Word to access Google Classroom data for the user's Google account.
For the smoothest setup, configure and enable both entries.
You need:
- Google Workspace admin access
- The ability to open Security > Access and data control > API controls
- Go to admin.google.com.
- Confirm you are signed in with an admin account.
- In the left nav, open Security.
The left nav path you want is visible in this area of the console.
- In Security, open Access and data control.
- Click API controls.
- Click MANAGE APP ACCESS.
This takes you to the app access control center.
- On App Access Control, click Configure new app.
- Stay on the default App step in the wizard.
- Search for
type the word. - Select one of the Type The Word web app entries.
- Click Continue.
If you see two Type the Word entries, configure one now and return later for the second.
- In the Scope step, choose All in Type the Word (all users) (or the equivalent all-users option for your org).
- Click Continue.
- On Access to Google Data, choose:
- Specific Google data with the listed Classroom + Sign in scopes, or
- Trusted (if your admin/security policy allows and you prefer broad trust)
- Click Continue.
This is the step that controls Classroom permission access behavior for your users.
- Review app, scope, and data settings.
- Click Finish.
- Return to Configure new app.
- Search
type the wordagain. - Select the second Type the Word web entry.
- Repeat Steps 5-7.
After both app entries are configured:
- Go to
/classroomin Type the Word. - Test Connect as Teacher.
- Test Connect as Student.
Both flows should complete without access-denied errors.
- Only one app configured: Make sure both Type the Word entries are configured.
- Access denied on connect: Re-check Access to Google Data choice and scope settings.
- Teachers work but students fail (or vice versa): One of the app entries likely has mismatched access settings.
- Policy blocks app access: Check org-level security restrictions and required approval workflows.
